Currently, at the height of the disturbances and demonstrations in Tehran and other cities in Iran, there is unrest among IRGC members at the Tabriz base in northwest Iran, due to the execution of two IRGC officers in a speedy field court-martial. The officers were executed following their refusal to carry out the order to block the protest which escalated into violent clashes in Tabriz on Saturday 20th June.

It emerges that they were accused by the IRGC commanders of opposing to make arrests and using severe violence against families of detainees who demonstrated opposite the jail in Tabriz, thus 'disrupting the enforcing of order'. Their families were told that they were killed in the course of duty. Behind this unrest is a refusal to carry out unequivocal orders issued by the IRGC leadership against a background of the Leader's resolute sermon speech delivered on Friday 19 June in Tehran, when he warned that demonstrators and their leaders would suffer the consequences if the protests continued.

The use of unbridled violence and the harsh measures employed to prevent demonstrations, in addition to the wave of arrests and the ensuing disappearance of people, have caused bad feeling among a small group of IRGC commanders who have refused to beat their brethren.

This is especially so in the light of the disappearance of demonstrators from hospitals and even from detention centers. Senior IRGC commanders are carrying out lesson learning to find out how to prevent a recurrence of this type of event, and to identify preliminary signs of rebellion in good time. All the staff at the base where the two IRGC officers were executed were assembled and warned not to be influenced by the conduct of the two rebellious officers.
