According to most recent reports, upon seeing the dangerous direction in which the escalating violence in the Iranian street is going, Mir Houssein Mousavi has met (Friday, June 19th), with Mohsen Rezai, (the candidate identified with the conservatives), in order to offer him to act mutually to moderate the potential disastrous results of the violence and to let the Iranian people to express their will. Following the rumors of dozens of demonstrators killed in different cities in Iran, and severs violence against them and their families.

In his appeal, Mousavi asked that Rezai use his influence on IRGC leaders to moderate the violence inflicted upon the citizens by the IRGC and Basij forces. Mousavi gave his word to Rezai, that in case the uprising in the Iranian street results in any kind of change within the Iranian regime, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) leaders and members depressing the violence would not be punished in any way (politically or economically). Furthermore, their privileges would not be taken from them, or their families.

He emphasized that he doesn't want to replace the regime itself. Although both candidates, who have lost the elections (June 12th) to AhmediNejad, belong to different camps in the Iranian politics, Mousavi's rational behind the appeal was that mutual interests can usually overcome differences in opinions, and that Rezai, who was the IRGC commander during 1981-1997, still has a lot of influence within the different ranks in the IRGC.

Seeing the violence in the Iranian street continuing to escalate, along with the hope for change, Mousavi's deep concern as to the price that would have to be paid by Iranian citizens keeps growing. His fear is that the price could translate even to thousands of dead and tens of thousands injured. In Iran, Mousavi enjoys the image of an experienced pragmatic leader, who is identified with the Iranian reformist camp.

For many Iranians (especially those who remember his term as prime-minister during the Iran-Iraq war 1981-1989), being an architect and a city-planning engineer - Mousavi is considered a potential leader, who would be able to engineer the necessary change that would make their lives easier to live.
