The following is the text version of an interview with one of the detainees of the past 2 months. For his safety the HDA has kept his ID confidential.

Q:
Can you tell us how you were arrested?

A: I was on my way home from work along with a friend when we were arrested by plain clothes forces and special guard officers and were taken to Meghdad Basij Station. There were 60 other people who were taken there following their arrests. Two hours later they began taking us in smaller groups to the interrogation room where our IDs were taken. The beatings and insulting started the moment we were arrested and continued in the Meghdad Station. We were not given any food or water and were allowed once to drink from tap water in the washroom of the station. Less than 24 hours later we were taken to Kahrizak prison.

Q: How were you treated in Kahrizak?

A: We were hand cuffed and blind folded and moved by a van to an unknown location (at first I thought we had been taken to Evin prison). They took us out of the van and through a stairway we were taken to a basement. When my blind fold was taken off I realized that I was inside a container. There was one 100W light bulb and an air channel to let the air in. There were 75 of us inside the container. Two hours later they took us out for our first interrogation. (Read more...)
