One Man Was Hanged, Two More Will Be Soon

One man was hanged in public in the southwest Iranian city of Ahvaz yesterday March 10, reported the official Iranian news agency IRNA. The man who was identified as "S. M." was convicted of drug trafficking ans was hanged in the "Ramedan Alley" (kooye Ramezan) of Ahvaz said the report. Two other people are scheduled to be hanged in public in Ahvaz on Saturday (March 12) and Sunday (March 13) convicted of Moharebeh and drug trafficking respectively, according to the report. The men are not identified by name. Iran Human Rights warned about public executions on March 9.
According to the annual report published by Iran Human Rights, more than 400 people were executed in Iran in 2009. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights condemned the public hangings and said:"By public hangings the Iranian regime wants to spread fear among the people in hope of preventing new uprisings on March 15". There are new protests planned for March 15, the last Tuesday of teh Persian new year.
