Following the execution of the minor offender Behnood Shojaee early this morning, the state run Iranian news agency ISNA reported : "The mother and father of Ehsan Nasrollahi themselves carried out the punishment in the Evin prison". Behnood Shojaee, at the age of 17, was convicted of murdering Ehsan Nasrollahi in a street fight. Despite the fact that he was a minor at that time and there were several deficiencies regarding the evidence, his death sentence was approved by the Iranian supreme court and he was executed this morning. ISNA continue quoting the judiciary official Fakhredin Jafarzadeh :" We didn’t stop our efforts until the last moment to gain their clemency but unfortunately it was fruitless and the execution was carried out".

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, said: "This is outrageous that the Iranian authorities who are on top of the list of the countries executing children, put the responsibility on the shoulders of the parents who already have lost their loved one. This is yet another inhumane side of the Iranian penal laws". He continued "Not only are the Iranian authorities responsible for excution of Behnood and all other minors, which is a violation of their international obligations, they are also responsible for the growing violence in the Iranian society which takes victims such as Ehsan".
