Lebanese Army Gives Iran Weapons Wish List

The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reports that in response to an offer by the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, the Lebanese Army has given the embassy a list of its weapons needs, focusing primarily on aerial defense systems. Beirut's al-Akhbar newspaper says Iran offered to supply Lebanon with weapons. Latter said to give detailed response focusing on air force needs; Iran has offered to arm the Lebanese Military, Beirut's al-Akhbar newspaper reported Wednesday. In a brief report, the paper said that the Iranian Embassy in Beirut inquired after the Lebanese army's armament requirements. The latter replied in detail, focusing mainly on air force needs. The move is reportedly a first on Iran's part. The paper did not mention if the sides reached any concrete agreement. Prior to June's general election in Lebanon, Hezbollah Chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said, "If we win the election we will bolster the Lebanese Military."
