Israel accuses IAEA over the Iranian regime

Israel has accused the outgoing head of the UN nuclear weapons watchdog of "dereliction of duty", claiming he deliberately withheld incriminating information on Iran's nuclear plans in a report published last week.

The Israeli foreign ministry said the report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, released on August 28, did not detail Iranian efforts to obtain nuclear arms or its continued attempts to deceive and to conceal those efforts. It also did not detail a refusal to co-operate with the IAEA and the international community, the ministry said.

"It is a harsh report, and yet it does not reflect all the information known to the IAEA regarding Iran's efforts to continue to pursue its military programme," the ministry said in a statement on Saturday. The Israeli reaction to the IAEA report comes ahead of an agency meeting due to be held in Vienna in the coming weeks and a special UN Security Council meeting on the prevention of nuclear proliferation, it said.
